- Locksets
-
We carry hardware from common brands such as Kwikset and Schlage,
as well as high security products from Medeco. Schlage offers various grades of hardware, from residential lines
to higher security like Everest and Primus.
Keep in mind the function of the lock when thinking about security.
Some common functions are:
• Entry: Can be left locked
or unlocked, requires a key for entry when locked. This is
the appropriate function
for a front
door.
• Passage: No key on either
side and always open. Commonly used on bedrooms and closets.
• Privacy: It locks with
a button, but does not have a key on the outside. This function
is typically found
on bathrooms.
• Storeroom: Always
locked. It can be opened with a key, but it can not be left unlocked.
Janitor’s closets, server
rooms and other areas that can not be left unlocked may need
a storeroom function lockset.
• Classroom: Locks and
unlocks with a key, and can remain unlocked. Called a classroom
lock because it is
commonly used on
classrooms. By requiring a key to lock, it prevents students
from locking the teacher out of the classroom.

In addition to function, when replacing old hardware or installing
new hardware, it is important to consider the difference between mortise and tubular.
• Mortise
Lock: A mortise
lock has a lock body that slides into a pocket cut out of the
door. The latch and
bolt are integrated
into the rectangular lock body, and they are actuated by
spindles that slide into or through the body.

• Tubular Locks: A latch inside a shaft connects to a lock body which
is attached to the knob or lever. Instead of a pocket cut
out in the door, a 2 1/8 inch hole is drilled. The backset of the hole
(the distance from the edge of the door) can be 2 3/8 inch
or 2 3/4 inch, and many newer latches are adjustable.

Many locksets and door hardware are available in different grades
(or durability). The highest is Grade 1, which is heavy duty commercial.
Grade 2 is light duty commercial, usually sufficient for most applications.
Residential quality is Grade 3. Often Grade 3 locks will break
when installed in commercial applications.
- Digital
Locks-
There is a growing interest in digital locks for residential as well as commercial applications. We provide advice, hardware and installation service for digital products for both residential and commercial installations. For residential, digital deadbolts with keypads and biometric readers are now reliable security options. A digital deadbolt can allow access with a code instead of a key.
In commercial applications, the selection of hardware is even broader. We offer stand-alone digital locks and products that can be programmed remotely. Digital locks can be fitted to standard metal or wood doors or narrow stile aluminum doors. Additionally, many manufacturers offer products in mortise and tubular lock designs, and digital entry can also be fitted for outside access with exit bars.
As well as digital locks, keypads connected to electric strikes or electrified locks can enable keyless entry. In commercial applications, many hardware manufacturers offer electrified versions of their traditional product line. For example, both the Schlage ND series commercial cylindrical locks and the Schlage L series mortise locks are available in electrified versions.

- Padlocks
-
The brands we most commonly sell are American, Master and Abus.
We sell padlocks keyed individually or keyed alike, and often we can key padlocks to existing keys. For customers with gates on
their homes, it is usually possible to key a padlock to a house
key. In our store we stock a wide selection of padlock styles.

- Doorclosers
and Exit Devices -
We sell many brands of doorclosers exit devices, and we provide
installation services as and offer doorcloser rebuilding services.
In some applications an exit bar is required by law to meet fire
code. Exit bars are also useful in permitting exit but eliminating
outside access.
